What happens in group therapy?
Our group will have 6–10 participants and meets weekly. We spend time sharing experiences, learning tools, and practicing new ways of relating. You’ll have the opportunity to listen, reflect, and speak when you’re ready—no one is pressured to share before they feel comfortable.
How is group therapy different from individual therapy?
Individual therapy focuses on your personal story in a private setting. Group therapy gives you a chance to see yourself in relationship with others, notice patterns, and practice new skills in real time.
Group therapy is not a replacement for individual therapy. Many people choose to do both at the same time: individual therapy for deeply personal work, and group therapy for practicing connection and support.
What coping skills would this group focus on?
Holding Space focuses on:
- Understanding nervous system responses to trauma (fight, flight, freeze, fawn)
- Developing co-regulation skills — the ability to attune to the self and others with presence, calm, and compassion.
- Practicing self-regulation through daily skills, mindfulness, grounding, and body awareness.
- Learning to hold space without fixing, advising, or minimizing.
- Building relational trust and identifying personal boundaries
- Noticing and naming relational patterns that may arise in group dynamics.
What if I feel nervous or shy about sharing in a group?
Almost everyone feels nervous at first. You’ll never be forced to share more than you’re ready for. Many people find that simply listening to others at the beginning is helpful. Over time, trust builds and speaking feels more natural.
How do I know if I’ll “fit in”?
Before joining, you’ll have a brief consultation with the therapist to make sure the group is a good match for your needs and goals. Groups are carefully structured so participants share enough common ground to support each other, while still learning from different perspectives.
Is group therapy confidential?
Yes. Everyone in the group agrees to respect each other’s privacy and confidentiality. The therapist sets clear guidelines at the start, so the group feels like a safe and protected space.
